Cosmetic dentistry

Have your teeth lost their whiteness? Teeth whitening can reverse the effects of aging and discoloration to achieve a brighter smile. It is the most popular form of cosmetic dentistry treatment available and is the most effective way to give your smile a new lease of life.

The whitening process works when oxygen released from the active ingredient penetrate the underlying tooth layers breaking up stains.

Teeth whiten better if they have been scaled and cleaned prior to the whitening procedure.

At Lydiard Street Dental Clinic we use a number of different systems.  The 90 minute in-chair system is speedy, safe and highly effective, you will walk out the door with a noticeably brighter smile. Opalescence take home system is our most popular teeth whitening method. In just 2 weeks you can achieve a result comparable to that of the in-chair system.

If you have stained, chipped, or misaligned teeth, porcelain veneers are a wonderful way to rejuvenate your smile. We will discuss the goals and colour shade that you wish to achieve for a brighter, more attractive smile. Dental veneers are thin fingernail-like tooth coloured shells carefully crafted to bond over the surfaces of your teeth making your teeth appear straighter and whiter. They are conservative and can be used if the underlying tooth is strong and healthy.

Porcelain veneers mimics the natural appearance of enamel in texture, colour, translucency and shine allowing you to achieve spectacular results while still maintaining a natural looking smile. The process is relatively painless and can be completed in as little as two visits.

Crown and Bridge

Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure. They restore former strength, function and natural appearance and are recommended to protect teeth that have undergone root canal treatment. Crowns are bonded over prepared teeth or implants much like a cap.

Bridges are commonly used to literally 'bridge' the gap between two teeth when one or more teeth are missing. Bridges support the surrounding teeth by preventing moving or shifting within the mouth into the space created by missing teeth maintaining the natural bite and chewing ability.

The procedure involved for fitting crowns and bridges is simple and painless. These crowns and bridges last for years and greatly improve the strength and appearance of your teeth.

Implants are the modern choice for tooth replacement. With dental implants, you can laugh, bite, and chew just as you would with your natural teeth. Every day, more people are discovering the wonders of dental implants. It is one of the most exciting developments in contemporary dentistry.

A dental implant is a titanium screw like replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth.  The implant acts as a foundation for a crown, or if several implants are used, the foundation for bridgework or securing dentures.

Not everyone is suited to dental implants, for successful implantation there must be adequate amount of bone around the implant site, the ability to heal quickly, and a very high level of oral hygiene. We will be able to advise you on its suitability.

Dentures are an easy way of replacing missing teeth. We are able to construct dentures to suit individual needs from a single tooth replacement, partial tooth loss or replacement of all teeth over a series of appointments. It is still important to have good oral hygiene when wearing dentures. Keeping dentures clean and not wearing them during sleep help to keep your gums healthy.
